Please join us to discuss Jim Shepard's "Our Day of Grace."
Find it on page 290 of the Best American Short Stories - 2019.
In an interview Jim Shepard described Our Day of Grace as "...an epistolary story set at the very end of the American Civil War, involving an exchange of letters between a young Southern woman and her beau [Lucy and William], as well as another southern woman [Hattie] writing to a husband [C.W.] who never responds."
The dates and locations of the letters relate to this battle where the South lost over 6200 men: https://www.battlefields.org/learn/civil-war/battles/franklin.
